Emerging Technologies - Part 2

"What are emerging technologies?" is a common question, one that is asked frequently by both industry professionals and layman. This is because the answer to this question can be both confusing and vague. Emerging technologies are technology whose evolution, developmental, practical application, or both are largely untapped, and hence they are figuratively emerging out of a grey, obscure background of obscurity or nonexistence. In the last couple of decades, there has been a proliferation of emerging technologies such as cellular phones, electronic reading devices, personal digital assistants (PDAs), the internet, digital photography, desktop and laptop computers, wearable technology like glasses, bracelets, bands, earrings, gloves, etc., and a plethora of other technologies.

Technological developments are often a product of social, cultural, and economic drivers. For example, certain emerging technologies, like cellular phones, pagers, and the internet were originally developed for a particular reason, to make daily life easier or more convenient for the individual. However, once their original purpose was fulfilled, their adoption and use expanded to include more practical applications. Examples of such practical applications include web surfing, instant messaging (IM), emailing, instant messaging (IM), and multi-tasking (multitasking means performing multiple tasks at the same time).

It must be emphasized that emergence does not mean that something is already available. Rather, it denotes that certain technologies and innovations are taking place at an increasing rate, which is likely to continue in the foreseeable future. One main reason for the pace of emerging technologies is the increasing dependence on electronic gadgets by individuals for their day-to-day activities. Another main reason for their increasing popularity is the increasing need for cost-effective, custom-designed systems and components for specific purposes. It is also due to the fact that most of these emerging technologies are being developed using open-standards and with the open-access licenses.

Two of the most important emerging technologies in the information technology domain are nanotechnology and nano-tech technology. Nanotechnology refers to the use of nanotechnology techniques to design and create miniature devices. These devices are then used to gather and store data, energy, and information. A typical nanotechnology device would consist of a small computer, memory chips, input and output electronics and sensors.

The other main article in this subject is artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence refers to the ability of a machine to operate using human knowledge. Its development has been stunted by the fact that most researchers and inventors are still trying to figure out how such artificially intelligent machines could be made to perform even a single task. However, the immense benefits of such a technological innovation should not be underestimated.

Of all the emerging technologies mentioned in the main article, computer science is arguably the most futuristic of all. It is an obvious choice because even today, with computers and their various peripherals being an inseparable part of our daily lives, no other technological innovation has been able to replace it. Computers have taken over many traditional jobs, including bank tellers, insurance agents, salesmen, etc., but it is computer science that is now believed to be the most valuable addition to human knowledge. Even though many people doubt the wisdom of this belief, the scientific community as a whole is pouring resources into building better, more robust artificial intelligent computers that are capable of intellectual thought. In the future, computer science may well play a very important role in ensuring that humanity's current level of technological achievement is far from surpassed.
